kira rockwell

is a Boston-based writer who was born and bread in the heart of Texas. Her character driven plays seek to foster empathy, cultivate hope, and challenge complacency. Her work includes, The Tragic Ecstasy of Girlhood, Nomad Americana, and With My Eyes Shut.

Her plays have been produced by Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Third Culture Theatre, Little Black Dress Ink, Goat Song Theatre Collective, and Fresh Ink Theatre. Her plays have been developed with The Bridge Initiative, Theatre@First, Nouveau 47, Southwestern College, Boston University, and Baylor University. 

Her plays have been featured across the nation in various festivals such as the Hollywood Fringe Festival (2018 Best in Dance & Physical Theatre, Encore! Producers’ Award) Last Frontier Theatre Conference (2016) Fresh Ink Theater's Mad Dash (2018, 2017) Little Black Dress Ink's Onstage Fest (2017, 2016, 2015) WaterTower Theatre’s fringe festival, formerly known as the Out of the Loop Fringe Festival (2015, 2016).

Kira is a proud member of The Dramatist Guild. She holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Baylor University and is currently pursuing her MFA in Playwriting from Boston University, under the direction of her mentor, Kate Snodgrass. Kira is hitched to Mark Rockwell, owner of Lonesome Hero Design Studio. They are parents to the sweetest, fastest, lab/pit rescue named Koda.
